If you’ve been building quietly in the Coachella Valley, this is the one to come to.
On Saturday, September 12, the valley takes part in a global AI hackathon for the first time. Agents, Everywhere: Beyond the Chatbot runs through the new AI Tinkerers Coachella Valley chapter, where AICV is a co-organizer and sponsor. OpenAI is the marquee sponsor, joined by CopilotKit and OpenRouter. Builders here work the same challenge as AI Tinkerers cities around the world, and every project enters one global submission pool.
the challenge
Most agents still sit in a separate chat window waiting to be talked to. The premise of this build day is that the useful ones turn up inside the tools, channels, and devices where people already have work to do — a Slack thread, a browser, a phone, a room with a microphone in it.
Teams have a day to build a working agent that belongs somewhere new, and to show it.
who this is for
Engineers, technical founders, researchers, designers who ship. If you’re experimenting, prototyping, or shipping with AI, this is your room — you don’t need to already be part of an AI community here, and you don’t need a team. Come solo and find one.
It’s a different room from most of what AICV runs. The workshops are built for people new to this, and no technical background is required. This one assumes you build.
why it matters here
For almost three years the work in this valley has been about helping people understand what AI is becoming. Workshops, conversations, practical tools, a lot of experimenting in public.
A region eventually needs more than people who can use the technology. It needs people who can build with it.
